National Poetry Day 2022
On Thursday 6th October 2022, Birchwood got involved with National Poetry Day.
This is an annual mass celebration that encourages everyone to make, experience and share poetry with family and friends. Reading is always of high importance to us at Birchwood and we understand the role and purpose of poetry across our English curriculum.
Children and staff were invited to come to school dressed as a descriptive word. We had many fantastic and creative outfits, showcasing words such as: sparkly, mysterious, majestic, bubbly and sleepy.
During the day, children were involved in a number of activities, some of these included listening to poetry being read aloud by staff, learning and reciting a poem and sharing this with another class. Children also spent time within their English and Guided Reading lessons focussing on different poems and poets.
We thoroughly enjoyed our day learning about the importance of poetry and how much joy it can bring to people. We look forward to participating in National Poetry Day next year.
