On Monday, our Choir Club and some of our Young Voices children sang their hearts out in our first ever Community Academies Trust Music Extravaganza concert. Our children, along with children from Stoneydelph Primary School, Dordon Primary School and Wood End Primary School travelled to the Wilnecote School to perform an amazing Christmas concert. The children all sang beautifully and everyone was so impressed to watch the talented students of the Wilnecote sing and play the piano. What wonderful role models they are for our children. It was a fantastic event with an audience full to capacity and all of the children thoroughly enjoyed it.
On Thursday 22nd February our school choir performed at Young Voices at Resort World Arena in Birmingham. They were part of a choir of over 5000 children and were watched by an audience of over 8000. The children had a wonderful time and performed brilliantly. Choir have been rehearsing for the concert since September and have shown dedication to learning words, dance moves and sign language. Well done Choir!
In December, 14 children from Years 5 and 6 Choir joined the service users from Polesworth Group Homes at their annual Carol service at Polesworth Abbey, where they performed two carols. The children sang beautifully and were very well behaved, even though the walk to and from the church was a little wet! Father Philip and Sally from Polesworth Group Homes thanked the children for coming along to sing. As PGH is our registered charity for this year's fundraising, we are hoping there will be lots more times we can take part in joint activities.
Choir rehearse every Thursday and are busy preparing for their concert at the NEC in Birmingham. In February we will join the Young Voices Choir of 5000 children for a wonderful show. The children attend each week and are very committed to learning the numerous songs and dances.
Children from across the school, wowed parents with their musical skills this week at Birchwood's annual Showcase event. Children played guitar, keyboard and ukulele as well as the orchestra collectively playing Hall of the Mountain King. The Choir treated the audience to three songs and parents had a sneak peek at the Year 6 leavers' performance, with three of our Year 6 children singing songs from Matilda the Musical. Well done to all the children who took part.
On Wednesday 5th July, six Year 5 children took part and played the cello in the Warwickshire Music Upbeat Concert and they were fabulous. They were playing alongside children from other schools playing the violin and recorder and they really shone. We are so proud of their bravery and their amazing performance skills and of course, their cello playing skills which were so professional!
Our amazing Birchwood choir represented our school in the Warwickshire Music Junior Choir Festival on Tuesday evening and they were fabulous! They were joined by other schools from Nuneaton and all performed a massed song at the end which had the parents beaming away!
On January 9th, Birchwood's Key Stage 2 choir attended the Young Voices concert at the Resorts World Arena! It has been three years since the last Young Voices concert, and for most of our choir, it was their first time going, and they absolutely loved it! They sang their hearts out and really enjoyed watching the Urban Stryde dancers, the beat boxers who were certainly a treat for the ears and an incredible violinist who played ‘Old Town Road’, ‘Rather Be’ and Bach’s Toccata and Fugue among other legendary pieces!
The children were so excited about their experiences that they wanted to share them for everyone to listen to so a new radio show called 'Young Voices 2023' is now available to listen to in our Birchwood Beats tab!
On June 29th 2022, schools around the world joined their voices together to sing 'Love as our guide', a rousing song with an uplifting message. We are happy to say that our school was part of this amazing day, along with 33,000 other children! Schools taking part were from USA, United Arab Emirates, South Africa, Thailand and the UK to name just a few! Please enjoy watching the video by clicking on the link below where you'll be able to spot our KS2 children in the top right hand box twice throughout the song!
On Tuesday evening, 37 of our talented musicians took part in an amazing music showcase! They all wowed the audience with the skills they had learnt this year and what an array of talent! Performing were keyboard club, ukulele club, choir club and children who have been learning the guitar, drums and keyboard with Simon Belcher in school this year. We are so lucky to have so many musical children at Birchwood!
On Wednesday 29th June, some of the children from years 5 and 6 took part in an Upbeat cello concert at the Life Church in Bedworth. They played and performed fantastically in a wonderful orchestral setting.
